Who runs this site?
This site ("x86cafe.net" or "x86cafe") is operated by Eirik Øverby, and is phyisically located in Oslo, Norway. The computer system on which it runs and all relevant (in the context of your privacy) infrastructure is owned and operated by me.
For any questions regarding your data and the privacy and protection thereof, I can be contacted either
- directly on this site
- through the fediverse at @ltning@pleroma.anduin.net
- via electronic mail: admin at x86cafe.net
Which data is collected and how?
Data comes from three sources:
- data collected during the serving of requests from your browser or application
- data you enter into the system yourself
- data received from other systems on the Fediverse through the ActivityPub or similar protocols
Data collected from your browser or application
In order to provide the service at all, your device needs to connect to this system. When doing so, it will leave certain information in the server logs, like your IP address, your browser version string, a timestamp, and some diagnostic data about how long it took to serve the request and how many bytes of data were transferred. The collected data is used to monitor system health and performance, and for troubleshooting purposes.
This data is kept for at most 90 days.
Cookies (data stored in your browser or app) are used to maintain your session while logged in (kept only for the duration of the session), and to prevent session hi-jacking by potential adversaries (kept up to one week, in order to protect future sessions.) These cookies contain no personal data whatsoever.
Data you enter into the system
In order to create an account, you'll be asked to provide an e-mail address for account confirmation and password resets. You'll also be asked to provide a name (which need not be your real name) and a "nickname", by which you will be known on the site and the Fediverse. Several other pieces of data can be entered in your user profile, but those are all optional. You choose what to add!
When you interact with the system by creating pages, posting entries, uploading files, or whatever else, this content is stored locally and transmitted to other Fediverse instances as determined by the content type, the privacy settings you choose for the information, tags and other identifiers you add, and what other users of the site and elsewhere have chosen to subscribe to or search for. You choose with whom the data is shared!
All of this is in the very nature of a federated social networking service. As is the fact that other server instances may cache, relay or otherwise store and transmit your data (if the associated privacy settings at any point allowed transmission elsewhere). This may also apply to posts and other data you have since deleted; it is technically impossible to enforce deletions elsewhere on the Fediverse.
This data is kept until you delete it, otherwise in perpetuity.
Data received from other systems
This system will receive federated information from other instances on the Fediverse. Some of this information may or may not relate directly or indirectly to you; there is no way for this system to make that determination.
Since such data may be part of conversation threads or otherwise linked to data created on this site by yourself or other users, it is treated like data you have entered except that it may not be possible to purge it even locally.
This data is kept until it is purged due to age or the origin instance instructs us to delete it.
Which data is shared with others, and how?
As mentioned above, data is only shared with other fediverse instances as permitted by the privacy settings you choose.
Absolutely no data of any kind is sent elsewhere or otherwise!
The site is exclusively served by the server (or servers) under the direct control of the owner of the site. This includes JavaScript, fonts, CSS and any other kind of resource fetched by your browser or application while interacting with the site.
Similarly, e-mails sent as part of account activations, password resets or other system notifications are sent directly from the system and not via 3rd party providers.
Your rights
You may delete your account ("be forgotten") at any time. Data associated with it will be erased from this system shortly thereafter, subject to up to 90 days retention in server logs. Data stored elsewhere as a result of federation cannot not be forcibly deleted. If you cannot perform the account deletion yourself, contact the moderation team or the system owner.
You can correct information about yourself at any time by editing your profile or posts you have made. Information about you given by others can be contested through the moderator team, but is generally not subject to modification.
You can download all your information from the system at any time.
You may object to further processing or withdraw your consent by deleting your account.
